01 / The County
A landlocked open world, currently shut in by the National Guard. There is no easy way in or out of this zombie quarantine.
The National Guard controls the town and has created a safe zone for civilians. They are trying to establish some semblance of order again.
Different factions are vying for power and control over the county. Choose which factions to align with, and what paths to follow.
Survivors can team up and build their own communities, or join existing ones.
A bite can start an infection. So can raw meat. Antibiotics hold it down. Cities can carry far more of the dead than a rural road.
Settlements are generated, not hand-placed copies of each other. Learn a block, then walk until the streets stop matching.
02 / The body
You wake up short on both. If either bar hits zero, you start losing health.
Open air, rain, and wet clothes pull your temperature down. A fire and dry layers pull it back.
Untreated infection climbs. A course of antibiotics is what turns it around.
Strength, endurance, dexterity, intelligence, and charisma. Scavenge, craft, cook, fight, and barter to raise them.
Lockpick a door, cook a meal, read a page, or put up a structure. The county pays people who can do the job.
Not even the clothes on your body are safe from other survivors.
03 / Factions
They still have posts across the country. Birchport is the hub for Ashen County: barracks, hospital, and street patrols, with a few smaller outposts out in the county. They keep the roads and the town. The traders handle the goods.
City crews in red armbands. They take blocks, clear the buildings, and put survivors to work holding them. The National Guard does not run checkpoints on their streets. They live off what they seize, including Ashen caravans.
A separate outfit from the Guard. They scavenge and buy from survivors, then move ammo, medicine, and food through the county. When a caravan is not passing, they keep stalls at National Guard posts, including the market in Birchport.
04 / Trade
Food, ammo, medicine, and gear come off the roads and out of the buildings. That loot is how you stay alive and how other players restock.
List what you found. Survivors buy it with notes. Better standing with the Ashen Traders keeps more of the sale.
Deadmarks buy notes, rare blueprints, and property deeds.
05 / Deadmarks
Banknotes spend in the county. Ship them to the wallet you signed in with, and one note becomes one Deadmark (DMRK).
